Gr. 7 Announcements

We are excited to announce that we are beginning Chapter 8 Plant Processes and Reproduction and Chapter 9 Interactions of Living Things. Below you will find information on upcoming major projects and the objectives from the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that we are covering during the next month.

Just a reminder NGSS directs teachers to: create project-based activities that require research and design, assessments that depend on critical thinking, and the use of evidence to develop an argument.

Ch.8 Plant Processes and Reproduction

* Plants Project*- (this is a group lab grade) Students have already designed and have begun planting their lima bean plants in order to mimic environmental conditions that would affect plant growth. A rubric assessing planning, collaboration, data collection, and work ethic will be attached to the studentís Google Classroom.

Ch.9 Interactions of Living Things

*Biome project*- (this will be an individual grade) Students will design and create an advertisement in the form of a pamphlet, travel guide, or poster to promote a resort where they will educate visitors on various topics such as attire, available activities, menu options etc. all with respect to preserving the natural habitats of the animals found in their biome. A rubric that assesses accuracy of information, work ethic, design layout, and m echanics will be attached to the studentís Google Classroom

Where can I find my childís textbook or assignments?

Gr.7 Upcoming debates
Greetings parents!

Part of science is to discuss highly debated topics like genetic engineering, stem cell research, and cloning. The goal of the next two weeks of instruction will be to encourage students to find reliable sources on information about those three topics. They will gather what they have found in order to present and argue their stance in a well structured debate format. This will help to improve skills of team work, researching for reliable information, as well as public speaking. The kick off will officially begin this Thursday. I encourage you to discuss your child's topic, their stance, and the stance they may be defending. Rubrics and forms will be provided to students and a digital copy will available via Google Classroom.

Thank you for all of your support.

Grade 7 Cell Organelle Presentation
Greetings everyone!

Our seventh grade students will be exploring the cell in the next chapter. To begin this chapter, students will be collaborating to become experts on a particular organelle in the cell and will create a Google slides presentation on that organelle. Students will have class time to complete the project on Thursday and Friday. They will present their project on Monday.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you in advance.

Welcome back to school everyone!

Grade 7 will begin a Scientific Method Group Project in class today where they will design their own experiment to solve a problem. Presentations will be on Friday 9/16/16. Please email me with any questions. Thank you all and hope to hear from you.
Grade 7 Announcements
Hello everyone!

Grade 7 will begin a project soon where they will create a poster on Glogster to show the evolution of a specific kind of animal.

We are excited to use this new type of technology in our classroom. Students will be made aware of the requirements for this project. Most of the project will be completed during class and will be due the Friday after we return from break April 15, 2016.

Students are not required to work on this project during the break.

I hope you all have a wonderful break and have quality family time.

Best,

Gr.7 Test
Grade 7 Test has been moved to Friday.

This will be a skills based assessment on Punnett Squares, blood typing, reading pedigrees, and addressing the cloning debate. There will be short answer and open ended responses on this assessment.

Students should review their past Genetics Quiz and Section 1 and 2 packets that were completed for homework. They should also be familiar with the basic pros and cons of cloning.

Gr. 8 Announcements
Hello Grade 8 Parents,

We have started Chapter 18 on Motion and Momentum. Our current topic if study is Isaac Newton and his 3 Laws of Motion.

Students have been working on various hands-on activities in class to help them grasp these topics.

A project for this chapter will be assigned next week. Students will be provided with all details and finalized rubric. Details to follow.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Thank you.

Greetings Parents,

Students will be preparing for an upcoming debate on cloning on Tuesday of next week. This will count as a project grade. Students were given two links on Google classroom to begin their research to form their own opinions and will begin research to find a science based article to support their claim tomorrow in class.

We are all very excited to have our first classroom debate! Please ask them about the advances in genetics that we have discussed in class. It is definitely a great topic for discussion.

We will be closing with Chapter 5 within the next week or so. We have a scheduled Chapter 5 test some time next week but that might be pushed back.

I will update Genesis as soon as I know how everything progresses.

As always, thank you for your constant support and feedback.

Best,

Miss Marquez
